Teacher - Parent Communication

Daily or weekly communication, as needed or requested, will be instituted by your child’s teacher. You may respond to the communication as needed. You are encouraged to send notes regarding school/health, etc., issues. Please check your child’s bag each day for messages. Please exchange email addresses with your teacher. Email is an easy and effective way to communicate.

TELEPHONE CALLS

Parents may call the school and leave a message for the teacher to return the call as soon as the daily schedule permits. Teachers will not be called out of the classroom to take a call. If your call is of an emergency nature ask to speak to the principal, the head nurse or the school secretary.

PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES

Conferences are encouraged as needed. Teachers are available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays at 3:00. Please sent a note by your child requesting conferences or telephone the school office (262-4850). The teacher will confirm the date and time by note or telephone call. If after-school hours are inconvenient, special arrangements can be made.

Individualized Education Plans

During the school year, IEP (Individualized Education Plan) conferences are scheduled to review and update each student’s IEP. We will notify you at least ten days in advance. We are required to maintain documentation that you have been notified. It is very important that you respond to these notices. IEP conferences can be scheduled during the school day to accommodate your need. If you are not able to attend, you may indicate that on your response or you may request another meeting time. A copy of the newly developed plan will be provided if you attend the meeting or will be sent to you if you are unable to attend.

Federal law requires that each student be reevaluated every three years. One meeting is held to determine testing needs. The second meeting is to consider continued eligibility in a special education program. You will be notified of these two meetings as the three years elapse. We are required to notify you of the meetings but you may talk with your child’s teacher to determine if you will attend. Children Center students will participate in the Alabama Alternate Assessment (AAA) evaluations as appropriate and required by grade level.
